It’s been so quiet past few weeks, we haven’t ventured out much, no one has visited us. Haven’t been doing any online ordering and been cooking at home.
There hasn’t been a knock on the door.
Our dog Joy, is the most peace loving poodle you would come across. He lives up to his name and is Joy to all of us. He loiters around the house chewing on his bones or playing with his toys.
We realised that he hasn’t been barking at all , as he does bark when there is anyone at our door or our neighbours( who are extraordinarily quiet as well).
When he goes down to the green patch for his job he rarely comes across any one.
We feared that if this continues for long he will forget barking and that would be so limiting and such a shame for a dog.
My kids devised a plan , now every few hours they bang the table, door, bed, anything that makes noise , he jumps out on listening to the it and house is filled with his barks again. He runs to the main door and back to figuring out where the noise came from. It’s great to see him so fierce and protective , he feels like his old self , we feel so safe, loved and cared for.
My husband who is on calls all day, gets a bit ruffled and comes out looking for the cause of this commotion.
For a few moments we forget that we knock ourselves and get excited at the idea of a visitor.
My elder daughter talks about the amazon delivery that she would love to get.
Younger one talks about the pizza delivery . Our helper is hoping it’s grocery delivery and for once she will have every item on the shopping list.
I am excited it will be some friend or family, best would be mom dad giving a surprise visit.
It’s like getting a respite from the circuit breaker( lockdown for my family & friends in india) for few minutes we go back to good old days.
We get to see each other, good break from home based learning and work calls from individual rooms. We check on each other, as to how the day is going , staring at our own face in the screen all day can be quite tiring.
I grab this opportunity to plan the menu for the next meal and we debate on the movie we would watch together in the evening.
We quickly arrive at all decisions that requires everyone’s presence & consent.
All this while Joy is running around , barking and mighty pleased with himself for getting us together.
All this excitement & family time in the midst of a week day, result of our unassuming wish for Joy to remember that he can bark😊
Joy is a blessing and I am thankful to each and everyone who took the pain to convince me to give in to my kids wish of getting home a pet 🐶 🤗
