Not all rivers flow into the sea…some go back and forth!

This river that flows past my house empties into the Kallang Basin just a few hundred meters away. The Marina Channel connects the Kallang Basin with the Singapore straits where it enters into the sea through a regulated barrage /dam.

Kallang Basin

Though rivers flow only in one direction. This section of river flows in both. Some days it moves towards the sea and day’s like today it moves towards the opposite direction.

It’s a unique experience .The barrage decides its flow. River simply flows . It’s not thinking that “well all rivers flow one way , why am I going back and forth”

Kallang River -moving in the opposite direction

It doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it all. Whenever I sit and observe this occurrence I am reminded to be flexible. Ups and downs , highs and lows, forward backward are all part of life. It’s all in the design. One can fight the current but won’t achieve much or One can just go with the flow…just like this calm, peaceful , unusual & extraordinary stretch of Kallang river.
